Elastic scattering of electron

Elastic electron scattering determines such important characteristics of low-temperature plasma as the mobility and conductivity of plasma electrons. Electron elastic scattering on atoms and molecules leads to the momentum transfer from the incident electron to the target particle without the change of the target internal state. This process determines the time of the electron free motion and the momentum relaxation in the medium. Therefore the cross section of electron elastic scattering defines such important plasma characteristic as mobility, conductivity and diffusion. Elastic scattering via the recoil energy participates in the formation of the electron distribution function. It also determines the cross section of the low-frequency Bremsstrahlung and therefore the emission of high-pressure lamps via inverse Bremsstrahlung.
